Thanks so much for shedding light on this issue. Yes, Nigerian parents hold that respect thing over their childrens heads. I am so glad you mentioned the EndSARS movement as an example because the older generation especially over the age of 60 really discouraged their children to go out and protest. Some even thought of it as disobeying an order and rebelling. Check out my peice on this I have elaborated on this further and also touched on why the older genertion feel this way about protesting.
